Dog Disease - Bathing Your Dog

It is important to give great care while bathing a dog because if you are careless in bathing, then the animal might end up with infections. For example, if you don’t cover the ears with large cotton ball, then the water may enter the ear canals and cause temporary or permanent damage. This may be in the form of ear infections with symptoms like continuous discharge from the ears and shaking of head.

How many times a dog needs to be bathed depends upon the breed of the dog. If the dog is of hairy type then it needs to be bathed once in six to eight weeks. If these dogs are bathed more than is required then the skin and coat loose the essential oils which keep the coat shiny.  The dogs may have to be subjected to numerous bathing by the owner if it has defecated on the skin because of frequent digestive upsets in order to avoid bad odor.

It is important that you do not use soaps which cause irritation to the dogs or the human soaps. This is because of a simple fact that the material used for making human soaps is not suitable for the dogs. Similarly human shampoo products are also not suitable for the same reason. Hence, you must try your level best to use only the products made especially for use in dogs. In case of using a new product, be more careful. If the dog shows signs of irritation then immediately refer to a veterinarian.

Be patient while giving the dog a bath because some dogs hate it while others simply love it. They may also love the sprinkling of water. Have all the things required for bathing at one place along with the availability of water. Make sure you have a leash, a conditioner, a towel and a shampoo while you are bathing your animal. Conditioner is useful as it makes combing of hair easier later on. Remember to take this bathing activity as fun and not a burden.
